Statistical Characterisation Of Morphological Operator Sequences.

X. Gao, V. Ramesh and T. Boult., ECCV 2002.

As discussed in the review of the Haralick paper on these pages, algorithms which cannot be evaluated may be of little practical use. For me morphological filters, despite their popularity, appeared to be in this category, as they were not amenable to the standard approaches to perturbation analysis. This paper introduces a new way of looking at algorithms and constructing a system for perturbation analysis. As I have remarked to the author, I thought this was impossible until I saw this paper. What is also good about it is that the method used is already well known to many in our field.
